Dali doing adverts..

Who knew this amazing artist could act!

Now, if TV existed in the time of Michelangelo, what products do you reckon he would pitch for? Answers in comments….<grin>

I want one

http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/16/news-brews-blends-rss-feeds-into-multicultural-beverage/

Rather than taking time to find out what’s going on in the world around you with your eyes, the News Brews hopes to shovel the latest RSS feeds into your brain via your taste buds. The steampunk-inspired device “connects to internet news feeds and parses them to determine the relative frequency at which different coffee growing regions are mentioned,” which means that your brew will differ each day depending on how frequently a given country is mentioned.

Queens Day

It was a week and a half ago now, and I only arrived back from Vegas at 2:00pm, but I did get to experience just a little of Queens Day in Holland. For those who don’t know, it’s probably the most celebrated day in Amsterdams calendar and the Dutchies do the usual beer drinking and reveling, however, in addition, they also do this weird garage sale thing. This basically means that everyone brings out their junk and tries to sell it to anyone walking past. Of course this probably explains why so much drinking is done, without the drunks nothing would get sold!

For all this I owe a debt to my rockstar neighbour, Leon, he not only ensured I got to see just a little of Queens Day, but introduced me to the beer at my local brewery and taught me to eat the cheese with the mustard NOT the fancy meats, who knew!

He also took this ridiculous picture:

That is me in the Orange, and my local brewery is actually in the windmill! Cool eh?

Blogging at Microsoft

I was relatively early to the Microsoft employee blogging revolution, and it remains one of the most memorable aspects of my time there. Its incredible to think that a corporate entity like Microsoft would not only be relaxed about thousands of employees publicly (and somewhat officially) speaking their minds, but that it actually put in place infrastructure and then encouraged it. Of course a very large thanks goes to Robert Scoble, but of course it also speaks volumes that such a huge percentage of employees are enthused enough to speak responsibly and considerately about what is is they do, and mostly in the own time.

But, that is not what this post is about, though as always once I start going down a path I find it hard to stop….

Anyway, being one of the earlier adopters I became somewhat of an evangelist (oh I hate that work) for blogging, sprouting off constantly to everyone who was unfortunate enough to come within metres of whatever desk I happened to be sitting at (Darren Strange and Mike Seyfang being just two victims). A lot of the time I received the following reply “Yeah, I would like a blog, I just don’t know what I would write about”. Well, this post is for you, and so is the below link.

Who is Sick?

Interesting site. Tracks the flow of illness via a google map. Wonder if it will ever get to critical mass, think it would likely be more interesting if you could pull doctors in somehow.

I wonder if driving directions could be integrated so you could avoid areas exhibiting high instances of certain symptoms? <grin>

GIZMO – Google Video

Truly classic old movie about inventors and creators. We all owe a combined debt to such optimistic and couragous, if mis-directed, individuals. <grin>

Vegas

Just got back from Las Vegas, had a fantastic trip, with of course the best news being that Simon and Jessica are now married. They are currently kicking back on their honeymoon.

CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!

And they weren’t the only ones with Martyn making his feelings clear, obviously overwhelmed by the moment and the chapel!

I also had the chance to catchup with a bunch of people from the UK (Mark, Alison, Mark, Martyn, Richard, Sarah, Graham, Caroline) and an old Kiwi friend Jen (no Graham, not Gin, thats just how Kiwi’s say it!). Also present was Kerry, who amazingly I had not met before. Anyway, we formed the coolest gang in the Flamingo hotel, spending nights at the Poker table, throwing shapes in the clubs and just generally bantering away.

Overall I came back down $55.00 for the week, not bad, though if it wasn’t for one very very unlucky hand I would have been laughing. How unlucky do you have to be to lose (Blackjack) from a quadruple split, a double double up, with the dealer sitting on 14? Dealer manages to get 21 with 5 cards. INSANE!!!!

But really, I’m over it now because….Something I didn’t lose money on was a flight to the Grand Canyon. This is actually the second time I have been there, but only the f irst time I have seen it. You might ask how that is possible given its is the biggest hole in the ground in the world, well, its a long story, but lets just say that I was incredibly surprised to learn that it sometimes snows at the grand canyon, and with it comes Fog!?!?

It went from this…..

To this!

Helicopter ride was great fun, Champagne in the canyon brilliant, and getting to see it unforgettable. Next time I want to take the canoe.

Folks, thanks for making it such a great trip, see you soon!
