But posting on the elections in the US still….
This one, a homage to the Bud adverts from a few years back really cracked me up.
WOW. What a great advert. Not only is it a welcome change from the 30 sec drive-by which is typical for this sort of campaign, but it actually talks more about what he is going to do, versus simply bagging out his oponent.
Hell froze over today.
Karl Rove admitted that McCain is a liar, going “one step too far” in stretching the bounds of the truth. His phrasing was pretty funny though, suggesting that some stretching is of course fine, just not too much!
But even I hate Fox news began calling out the McCain campaigns lies:
I’m in deep shock.
And keep his campaign clean, the lies are coming unstuck, they just cant keep all the fictitious threads connecting for 2 more months.
WHEELS COME OFF STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS?
First came a front-page New York Times piece noting that McCain "has drawn an avalanche of criticism this week from Democrats, independent groups and even some Republicans for regularly stretching the truth." There was also an accompanying fact-check of McCain’s latest TV ad, which called it the "latest in a number that resort to a dubious disregard for the facts."
The Washington Post gave "four Pinnochios" to McCain’s recent assertion on "The View" that Palin never took earmarks as Alaska governor. Then the Boston Globe reported that Palin didn’t really travel inside Iraq as has been claimed. And Bloomberg News said that the McCain camp may not have been exactly truthful in estimating the size of its recent crowds. "Now officials say they can’t substantiate the figures McCain’s aides are claiming."
To top it off, McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said this to the Politico about the increased media scrutiny of the campaign’s factual claims: "We’re running a campaign to win. And we’re not too concerned about what the media filter tries to say about it.”
My favourite though is this lie they told in an attempt to cover up the fact that she has hardly ever left her home in Wasilla, let alone Alaska, let alone the US, as pointed out in this interesting read (NY Times article**).
By their standards, I have actually lost count of the number of places I have been to!
Earlier, the campaign also said she had been to Ireland, but that turned out to have been a refueling stop on the same July trip. McCain aides have expressed indignation at questions about her slim foreign travel. – Washington Post
** “Democrats and Republicans alike describe her as often missing in action. Since taking office in 2007, Ms. Palin has spent 312 nights at her Wasilla home, some 600 miles to the north of the governor’s mansion in Juneau, records show.”
Worth watching, and has made me wonder where all the other real reporters are?
It seems the Democrats got sucked into the Republican campaign strategy today. Its incredibly frustrating to watch. Their campaign has clearly tried to keep the competition for the worlds most powerful position out of the gutter, if they give up on this now they have failed before starting. Take the high road, someone in American politics has to.
Obama, stay away from the bullshit, leave it to McCain, how the freak can he approve this crap.
The lies never end, does he even know what his campaign is putting out there?
